Northern Negotiations

It was a cold December night. The winds blew, roared like bulldozers around the wooden walls of the Throle estate in the deep pine forests of the north. The radio had just blurted out the last news of the battle of Helsinki. The civil casualties, and five and a half thousand dead allied troops could hardly be known as a success, even though the occupying Nazi forces had suffered a great loss and been driven as far as to Latvia.
